Went to UCO to watch the tournaments Wednesday. Here is what I saw:
Gold bracket semis:
Dale v. Deer Creek - Deer Creek came out on top without the transfer from Crossings. Very quick group, used their speed to combat the size disadvantage against Owasso. Dale is loaded once again. The young Forsythe is a stud and Edmondson is one of the best point guards in the state. Probably the best coached team I watched with their discipline.
Lawton v. Norman: Norman won the game, but it was a battle of pure athleticism. Coach Cole and Coach Smith both have teams that are relentless competitors. Not a ton of size on either squad, but their ability to finish at the rim for both groups was the most stand out part of this game. Rarely saw a shot in the paint not go in. Efficient!
Finals: Norman wins v. Deer Creek.
Can either make the finals? Deer creek, yes. With the kid from Casady and another from Crossings will make them a 6A powerhouse. They whipped Owasso (however their best player was not there). Norman worries me because Owasso was without their best player. I see Deer Creek v. Owasso for championship.
Blue bracket semis:
Mt. St. Mary over Bishop McGuinness - What a battle this game was. Back and forth the entire time. The vertical of st. Mary’s post I believe was the difference maker. He had some key rebounds, and blocked shots to allow them to win. They have a guard who can really shoot it as well. Fun game to watch.
Crooked Oak over Bethany - Bethany will be in the 4A state tournament this year bringing all of their athletes back, and honestly I didn’t expect this one to turn out this way. Bethany has an abundance of skilled shooting guards who can knock down threes from anywhere. The difference? Height advantage for Crooked Oak. Their guards can shoot it, and when it spreads the defense, they dump it inside. Also Crooked Oak presses the entire game. Bethany’s legs left them and it caused an abundance TOs. Crooked Oak plays harder than any team I watched.
Finals - Crooked Oak over Mt. st Mary.
Can either make finals? The Mount in 4A…. No they cannot. Crossings, Douglass, Weatherford are the best three teams in 4A.
Crooked Oak I believe has a chance. With the privates mostly moving to 4A, I think Cascia Hall, Millwood, and Crooked Oak are the three best. Personally I see 1. Cascia Hall 2. Crooked Oak 3. Millwood.
