LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Ronald Bruce Newby, a coach, a teacher, a father, husband and grandfather.
Cherished by many in Marlow, Newby passed at the age of 75 due to cancer on April 14. This is according to a Facebook post by Daryn Brantley, athletic director for the Marlow Outlaws.
In a phone conversation with me today. Brantley said Newby “was the ultimate, from a Christian perspective you’d call him a Barnabas. He was just an encourager.”
In 2016 the Outlaws athletics dedicated the “Ron Newby Field House” in his honor. Newby is remembered as a leader and a coach who emphasized mental and physical toughness.
“We know that people don’t live forever but a man like him is just someone you feel is immortal, like he wasn’t supposed to die. It’s just hard to imagine Marlow sports without him in the bleachers,” Brantley said.
