An upset in one district changes the entire pairings. Think we have a chance to see at least one in every class.

Also In the past the 4 and 5 Regional usually has 10 and another top 14 team. This could change with new guy in charge

Chasing the ball I heard that aBV got in trouble because they dropped some teams in the rankings. So they took points from them to punish them. It’s funny that the teams that benefit are arnett n LS. Question how many more rankings or is this the last one. I guess there the only team all year to drop people. Must of hurt some feelings.

BV dropped LS and Arnett from #3 and #5 in Week 3 to #13 and #14 in this last ranking. Rules state that if you drop someone more than 5 spots without reason, you can file a petition. Those schools did, and BV wasn’t able to justify it. BV’s rankings are thrown out, and they are penalized points.

Gopokes thanks for the explanation. I didn’t know there was a rule in place but it sounds like it is actually a good thing. I guess I’ll have to take back the sounds fishy comment. Do u know how many more rankings are left. I had looked awhile back l forgot. It was on ossaa website.

You only have to explain if a petition is filed. There is a rankings committee made up of coaches from multiple classes. They review the petition and take a vote if they want to pursue it. The OSSAA handbook says that you will be penalized 16 points, and your rankings thrown out. Not sure if that last part results in another penalty or not. Rankings are done. Yesterday was the last one.

So the coaches of the higher ranked schools do manipulate rankings by not submitting their own losses or by underranking teams they dont want in their regional. Fascinating. Personally, I think the brackets should be drawn like football and basketball----pairings all the way through playoffs released at one time. Designate district1,2,3, and 4 winners as regionals hosts--regardless of who wins them, and draw and release the entire brackets before the playoffs begin. District one winner hosts districts 8, 9, and 16 winners. District 2 winner hosts districts 7, 10, and 15 winners. District 3 hosts 6, 11, and 14 winners. District 4 the rest. Do not allow coaches to vote for their team, and disallow the ballot of any team that fails to submit their game results in a timely manner. Initiate a rule saying schools who violate those rules cannot be seeded higher than 4th in their region. Penalize points for teams not submitting their wins and losses in the window the OSSAA requires.

There are also penalties for not reporting scores, including suspension of coach after a certain amount of times. Just rarely enforced.

The rankings system they have now is fine. Best option they got. I certainly hope they don’t go to districts. %85 of the yoke the teams at state are in the top 8. Coaches get it right most of the time. Can’t please everyone.
