Ossaa's new sportsmanship rule:

It's two or more times in the same sport & same season. If you have that many issues then it is on the school & parents and they're the reason these measures have to be taken.

That's why you have meetings with the parents, ban people, and administrators handle inappropriate behavior before it escalates. Officials be understanding and will probably not report a school if the admin handles issues during the game. Too many instances where people cross the line and no action is taken, this is to strongly encourage action before things get out of control.

I’m going to open a can of worms here but oh well. This step is long overdue! This year schools had to play mandatory Thursday and Saturday football because of the shortage of officials. And they have already started canceling basketball games due to the shortage. Yes, I do feel that school administrators could do a lot to stop the trouble makers at games but so far I see no willingness for them to do it. If this isn’t addressed canceling game will be the first thing that will happen and eventually seasons. And who is it going to hurt? The kid!, not the ones that are creating the problem.

I understand the problem, I have seen it firsthand (May have verbalized my frustration at referees too?) I think there is a difference between letting a referee know he should be "watching for traveling" or "thats a foul" vs "you're a *!#$!# person" or "you (su## at Reffing).

All in all, yelling at referees should be held to a minimum. Yelling at opposing players or teams is uncalled for (imo) that is a felony imo. Yelling at Refs in a CONSTRUCTIVE WAY is a misdemeanor, while yelling hateful or hurtful explicitives to anyone at a game is a felony (metaphorically speaking).

I do like the fact that (OSSAA will not suspend teams if the School can prove they have taken action to eliminate or greatly reduce the particular culprit's action from occurring again). If the OSSAA can suspend a team no matter what after two complaints, I think that is a slippery slope. (you may have fans from rival schools coming in to get your team in trouble?: THIS SOUNDS CRAZY, but it is an "If/Then scenario that should be discussed?

Again, I respect the OSSAA and I truly believe they want what is best for the kids and school to succeed. I hope rules are carefully thought through prior to implementations. That's all.
