How does the OSSAA deal with a tie for 8th in final rankings? It happened twice this year. Once in 3A girls, and once in 4A boys. I would assume that ideally they would place them in the same regional, but the geography was difficulty for both with it being Kansas/Comanche and Newcastle/Stilwell. Did they flip a coin? In both cases, the team not treated as top 8 (Comanche girls and Newcastle boys) were sent to a regional with a top 4 teams. Seems a little harsh. I know it's not perfect, just curious. I thought maybe first place votes would be a tiebreaker but Comanche had one and Kansas didn't. Anyone have any insight on this?

The OSSAA Handbook mentions the following with respect to rankings in the State tournament. My guess is that they used this same criteria for the cases where there were teams tied for #8. Kansas girls and Stillwell boys had better records so would have been taken as #8 based on criteria "(2) win-loss record" since there had not been head to head meetings between the tied teams.
G. State Format - Classes 4A, 3A, 2A, A, and B 1. Since it will be impossible to use all guidelines at times, the order in which they are listed will take preference. Example: (a) takes preference over (b), (b) will have preference over (c), etc. a) The four schools undefeated in district, regional, and area tournaments will be placed on lines 1-4-5-8 on the state championship bracket. The highest rated team shall be placed on line 1, the fourth highest rated team on line 4 and the third highest rated team on line 5, and the second highest rated team on line 8. Ratings will be secured from OSSAA rankings programings.com. In case of a tie, the following criteria will be used to determine the higher seed: (1) head-to-head competition and (2) win-loss record. If rank and records are the same, the teams (in question) will be seeded by lot. b) Teams will be cross-bracketed if they met during the play-offs. The number 1 and the number 2 seeds will be placed against the lowest rated runner-up teams.
