And the Races are On...
First week of District Play is always exciting - these might be the best games:
G(s)otW:
Prague @ Millwood - This, in all but name, is a playoff game. Devils are hot and running on all cylinders offensively - they are effective on the ground and proficient when passing is necessary. The Falcons, still a bit of a mystery with only two games under their belts following last week's cancellation, should be more than eager to play well at home and reassert their status in District 2.
Crossings @ Chandler - Unless the OSSAA repeats its 2020 playoff format, this also is effectively a playoff game. Strange to consider that these two good teams could be heading in opposite directions (and not necessarily how you might first think) in District 2. Lions are still clearing the cobwebs after consecutive losses, but are at home, while the Knights (and their blitzing defense) have yet to give up double digit points this season.
KaEo:
Roland @ Pocola - The Indians arguably have their best team in years led by solid talent in the skill positions. The Rangers are anchored with impressive front lines. Both teams need to make an early statement in what looks to be a stacked District 5.
Bethel @ CHA - A balanced offensive attack makes the Wildcats difficult to anticipate, while the Crusaders, reeling after an unexpected ambush at St. Mary's, rely on air travel via their talented qb & receivers. Should be an entertaining tilt in District 3.
Hugo @ Atoka - Another early playoff impactor, as five teams, including the Buffs and Cats, will be playing for four spots in District 6.
Upset or Onset?
Purcell @ Washington - Many thought the Dragons might not be up to the task in District 3, but after a week zero loss to Lone Grove, they've rebounded and played well. Meanwhile, does anyone recall the last time the Warriors were asleep at the wheel?
Comanche @ Marlow - Indians are playing their best football in quite a while, and are heading to the other end of Stephen's County with a load of confidence after upsetting Lone Grove last week. Unfortunately for them (& perhaps all of District 4), the Outlaws, who may well be better than they were in 2020, have shown no weaknesses thus far.
Keys @ Vian - Cougars got shellacked last year by the Wolverines, but neither team is the same now.
