Corky McMullen named next Midwest City coach

Daniel "Corky" McMullen's job is changing slightly next season, but he won't have to change schools.
Last week, McMullen was named Midwest City's next boys basketball coach. He spent the 2019-20 season leading the Bomber girls team, which went 17-9 and was a game away from earning a berth to the Class 6A state tournament.
McMullen replaces Dewayne Bradley, who left to take over Noble's boys job after 12 seasons guiding the Bombers.
"It wasn't an easy decision." McMullen said. "My first year coaching high school and coaching girls was last year. I had an awesome experience. I really loved the girls.
"It pains me to leave the girls, but it came down to looking at the big picture."
McMullen, who was a coach's kid, has five boys, all ages 8 and under. So he wants to be able to coach each of them one day. He also didn't want to leave Midwest City because he found a home, so that helped make the transition easier.
McMullen spent 12 seasons coaching college basketball before taking over the girls program.
The Midwest City boys went 22-3 last season and qualified for the Class 6A state tournament. Juniors Israel Hart and Makale Smith along with sophomore Kevin Overton return, helping to keep the Bombers a state power.
