Just hours after Enid completed a one-win season, the Plainsmen are looking for a new football coach.
Steve Hayes resigned as Enid’s head coach early Friday, the school announced to the Enid News & Eagle.
“I would like to thank (superintendent) Dr. Darrell Floyd, Dudley Darrow and the Enid School Board for the privilege of leading the Enid High School football program these past four years,” Hayes said in a release. “However, at this time, I feel like it is best for the program to step down as the head football coach and make room for new leadership.”
Hayes spent four seasons at Enid and went 10-30. Enid was 1-9 this season, its first in Class 6A-I. It’s the school’s worst record since 1999.
Previously, Hayes had success at Texas’ Trinity Christian Academy, leading the team to the playoffs in 11 straight seasons. He also led Trinity to two state title games.
