Talihina drops football for 2022 season

So Heavener just went from a 1 win to a 2 win team??? Feel bad for the Talihina kids if that's where they have to go but I'm not sure of any other option for them.

I have heard their 8th grade group is going to be the ones that get them deep in the playoffs again.

That's only 75 people in 12 years or an average of six people per year. With the Choctaw Nation there I thought there might be more people moving in but I bet they are driving from other towns.

It is a shame that Talihina Golden Tigers have dropped football. With that being the case, maybe the other teams in A-8 could schedule replacement games against A-3 since OCA and Pioneer have dropped out of A-3 district. Gore could maybe schedule Cashion in a non-district game. The Gore coaches know the way to Cashion, as the Green Letter Jackets with a Pirate mascot have been spotted in the stands at Maxon Field in Cashion the last couple of years.

Talihina as a community may be shrinking, but according to the latest ADMs published by the Oklahoman, theirs was at 154.82. That is higher than many other class A teams. With an average class size of 39 students, if a program can't get 5-6 players per grade to come out to play, it sounds more like a culture/program issue than population. Gore, Mooreland, Wayne, BF-DC, Thomas, Ringling, Texhoma, and Woodland all have ADMs lower and have had success in Class A. I'll be interested to see if the Class A split gets more of the 8-man schools that should be playing 11-man to bump up.

So it's a community culture issue... it's really a shame because especially for small schools the athletics or FFA programs are the lifeblood of the school.
