A brief synopsis of all proposals:
SUCCESS FOR THE ACTIVITY OF FOOTBALL (Committee report)
The “success” component that is currently in place would be changed in football. Currently if a school is moved up in classification due to meeting the success factor, (finishing in the top 8 two out of three years within their respective classification) the school would move up one classification from where the ADM for that school places them. With the proposed change, should the school meeting the adjusted success factor (finishing in the top 4 two out of three years within the new higher classification) continue to have success in football the school would be moved up another classification. Schools continuing to have success will continue to move up in classification if they meet the success factor. No school could be placed above the 6A-II classification. When a non-public school is moved up in classification, only a public school could be moved down to replace the void left. The team moving down would be the least successful school, not the school with the smallest ADM in the classification.
SEPARATION DURING PLAY-OFFS FOR THE ACTIVITY OF FOOTBALL (Committee report)
Each member school participating in 11-man football would be placed in a District for a two-year period according to their ADM. All regular season games and District schedules would be played during the regular season. The top 4 teams in each District would advance to the play-offs in their respective classifications. If 8 or more non-public school football teams place in the top 4 in their respective Districts, the non-public schools would be separated out into their own playoff bracket. When a non-public school is removed from the District standings, the district standings will be adjusted.
A ratio like another classification would be used to determine which non-public schools would be separated into their own play-off bracket. It is possible not all non-public schools would be separated from public schools in the football play-offs. EXAMPLE: The current disparity in class 5A ADM is a ratio of 1.75, if this were the ratio used, Bishop Kelley, Bishop McGuinness, Summit Christian and Wesleyan Christian would remain in the public school bracket provided the team finished in the top 4 of their respective District.
SUCCESS FOR ALL ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES (Board discussion)
The “success” component that is currently in place would be changed in all activities. If a school is moved up in classification due to meeting the success factor, (finishing in the top 8 two out of three years within their respective classification; or the top 4 in tennis and volleyball) the school would move up one classification from where the ADM places them. Should that school continue to have success in an activity (finishing in the top 8 two out of three years or top 4 in tennis or volleyball within the new higher classification) the school would be moved up another classification. When a non-public school is moved up in classification, only a public school could be moved down to replace the void left. The team moving down would be the least successful school, not the school with the smallest ADM in the classification.
SEPARATION DURING PLAY-OFFS IN ALL ACTIVITIES (Board discussion)
Each member school participating in football, soccer, fast-pitch softball (Class 3A-6A), and baseball (Class 3A-6A) would be placed in a District for a two-year period according to their ADM. In all other athletic activities, each member school would be placed in a classification according to the ADM of the school each year.
In football, soccer, fast-pitch (Class 3A-6A) and baseball (Class 3A-6A), all regular season games and District schedules would be played during the regular season. In football and soccer, the top 4 teams in each District would advance to the play-offs in their respective classifications. In football and soccer if 8 or more non-public school teams place in the top 4 in their respective Districts, the non-public schools would be separated out into their own playoff bracket. When a non-public school is removed from the District standings, the next public school in that District would be moved in the play offs.
In Fast-Pitch Softball (Class 3A-6A) and baseball (Class 3A-6A), non-public schools will be moved to a separate bracket and the remaining schools in the district from which the non-public school was removed will be adjusted in the District standings.
In all activities not participating in Districts during the regular season, the school will play a regular schedule as established by the school. The play-off structure will separate non-public schools into a separate play-off bracket.
