I guess what I wrote just didn’t sink in. I guess I didn’t communicate it well enough. I probably should have went about it this way. The quote that the Enid paper put in the paper was half of the quote. That is the point. The editor didn’t put the whole conversation in the paper to make someone look bad. To me that is horrible journalism and is a disgrace to my profession. I was wanting to point out. Everyone can have an opinion on the refs. You think they were good. I disagree I felt they were sub par. To that everyone will agree to disagree. I am simply stating you are trying to bad mouth a coach and a town. By saying he is blaming the refs off what a editor of a paper. I have the recording. It is only half of what was said. As I stated above the coach congratulated Fairview and said his teams mistakes cost them the game. People are so quick to react to a phrase in a news article. The journalist that wrote the piece did a half a job knowing it would stir up the natives.

Not bad mouthing the town. I’m sure he did congratulate him, I never said he was a bad dude. In my profession I’m not a public figure and means most of the stuff I do everyday goes unnoticed. You are for sure right about one thing, I’ll never be as great a coach as BT unless I’m taking the Wildcats to a 6th grade super bowl. I don’t have to have the pressure of a whole stadium watching my actions. You said you were there, I was too and I saw what I saw on the sidelines. And you’re right I am taking something said from the paper and I’d love to hear the whole conversation. If he didn’t say “if that’s the best officiating crew in Oklahoma then we’re in trouble” then you’re right, that is bad journalism.

That is a factual statement. It whole interview as a whole. I hate the cherry picking. I tend to agree with him. I felt there were a lot of calls missed both ways and imo some of the calls missed would have made it a bigger win for Fairview. It is an agree too disagree topic. People will think the refs were bad and other will think they were great. I just hate when people start saying things about people and towns just because they read a cherry picked article. I would love to see them in the semifinals and finals go to the college look with replay and go off a grading system from the coaches throughout the year to be able to call those games. Or since the osssa makes a ton of money hire college officials for the semis and finals. Atleast you would be hiring professional refs. You should read the article about the state championship game in Georgia with the refs. I agree there are not enough because of the constant stress of trying to make everyone happy. So the good ones are going to college or just leaving. Just like everything else until they start getting bonuses and making a lot more money to call these games it will be status quo. The osssa charges dang near 15 dollars a ticket surely they can set up a bonus system for the refs

I agree. No more than what they are making it’s tough to have competent people out there. I’ve been to games all over this year and have seen some bad refs. But you can’t tell me after all those ticket sales they can’t pitch in a few extra bucks and get some replay in. If they can play it on the video again and again they can dang sure set something up. I mean who wants to go get yelled at $100 bucks. The people that don’t mind that are people who need the money and don’t care to work on their craft.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I wouldn’t do it. I just think it is a travesty that kids, coaches and communities invest so much into these programs that the state should do the same. IMO the OSSSA should spend money to give the teams the best officiated ballgame they can. Calls will be missed that just being human. But as a whole I have seen a rapid decline in great officiating over the last decade. The old timers have retired that used to really try to master their craft. Ok officiating is not good enough for a state championship game imo. Players and coaches have invested so much time for OK. OSSSA should do better.

That's probably my fault for only copying that part. I encourage everyone to go to the Enid paper site and read the whole story. But, he should not have said that. A grown, 50s man charged with the task of shaping these young men into good citizens should have better control of his tongue.

because people are sissies as traber would call them
I've been watching the game broadcast and caught a few things I didn't notice last night. Would like others opinions, but specifically, #20 tackling Gore #3 at 8:41 in 2nd quarter (does a crocodile roll) and #63 actions on Gore's #85 after he makes a tackle in the flat at 5:33 left in 2nd quarter. I asked the player himself if he was injured during the game and he told me someone tried to break his ankle intentionally. 2 plays later he exits the game and Fairview attacks the new corner for a 40 yard gain. I see what I see but would like others objective opinion. Thoughts?
Just saw the one with 63 on 85. It happened right in front of the official. You can see #3, #8, and #5 all saying something to the official about it. The official responded “just play”. I know stuff happens all the time that we don’t see during games, but that was pretty dirty. 63 got down there for just that purpose. Did Fairview purposely capitalize on 85 coming out? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know. Did that cost Gore the game, no. It was a combination of things that cost them the game. The roll with 20, ehh not that big of deal to me.

If they only printed half the quote, then I think we can all agree that that is terrible journalism. It’s why a lot of people have the opinion they have about the media. With that being said, there are some great journalists and I think the majority also appreciates their work.
In regards to BTs comments: It doesn’t matter if it was only half the quote; he shouldn’t have said it at all. Phil Koons got suspended for a game back in 2009 while at Tuttle for talking about the officials. He was in the wrong for saying it. Printing the second half of the quote should’ve been done, but it still wouldn’t have excused his comments.
Calls go missed. What calls should have been called that wasn't? What was a bad call? I'd like to hear whoever thought the calls missed were bad to please tell me or the bad calls in the game? Like I said earlier, unless you have a complete unbiased view your opinion will be jaded to whatever side you're leaning/rooting for. Also on the missed/bad calls how would you have made it better? I'm curious to know your thoughts and what was a bad call and what was not called.
I don't think anyone was making the town of Gore feel like they are the scum of the earth. I don't know what was said but to me even if there is more to the quote, the quote about the officials was distasteful. I get it you just lost but at the same time you are a leader amongst men. There is a reason you are in the position you are in. There is a reason you have won X amount of games. Be the professional you are. I feel that BT is human and the human side of him showed. It happens.

If we really wanna dive into this watch back what happens when fairview recovers the muffed kickoff. At first I thought #2 had maybe knocked the wind out of himself with how hard he jumped on the ball. After watching the replay I thought maybe he caught a foot too the groin by accident but by what he told me along with players on the sideline. The gore player that stood up stepped on his stomach and drug his cleat across it.
Helluva game on Saturday night! Fairview kept grinding when there were many opportunities for Gore to jump out to a huge lead or create a turnover on downs with the many 4th down attempts they converted. Football season seemed to have flown by this year, already looking forward to next year!
Hats off to both teams for a great year and a great game!
“Every time we got a stop, the referees bailed them out all night. It is what it is. They didn’t catch a pass one time, we get a fumble and they give it back to them. We have the ball down here and they give it to them. Pass interference a number of times. It is what it is. If that’s the best officiating crew in Oklahoma, then we’re in trouble.”
Quote from Gore's head coach printed in the Enid paper. His players, town and other coaches deserve better.
You obviously don't know him. He is as good of a man in the coaching profession as there is. I will tell you he could coach my kid any day. He is right the officiating this year has been horrible at all levels. It goes beyond missed calls. What is the solution for that I am not sure, but something needs to be done. Raise the pay, more required training whatever something needs to get better with it. Like I said BT is an outstanding coach and a better man. I am sure the players and parents of Gore are proud to have him leading that program.

Do you officiate? Or do you just complain they need more training or better pay? You say it goes beyond missed calls….can you elaborate on that? You know anyone can officiate. I challenge everyone on this forum to go sign up and let’s see how much you truly know. Put your skills and knowledge to the test. Throw a flag in a game have Coach Shackleford or Coach Kirtley berate you for a couple hours. Or Coach Powers, Coach Tyler, or any other coach for that matter. I just love when people say something needs to change but they 1) don’t know what the change needs to be, 2) don’t officiate themselves….there are bad calls or misinterpretations of the rules, I’ll agree with that but if it’s so east I challenge you to do it.
Also, I’m waiting for someone to tell me the bad calls in the game and what is your definition of pass interference. Why was the PI in the Fairview-gore game a bad call? Which one was a bad call? Which one was a good call? What other calls were missed? I’m curious to what play/plays you’re talking about.

Dude get off your high horse. The officiating is not good right now. They do need more training. There are still a few good crews out there. Told you gonna have to pay them more and require more training.

Get off my high horse? I’m confused. I asked several questions and I’m curious to see your answer to discuss them. The officiating isn’t all bad. There are some terrible crews I agree but what are you doing? You seem to have no problem telling us what’s wrong with the officiating yet you don’t do it yourself. Have you ever read Theodore Roosevels “the man in the arena” if not you should. If you’re go to move is to just argue rather than provide reasoning or explanation to your words then I guess party on my guy. I like discussion.

I think the way the game has evolved into spread offense is part of the problem. Used to with run heavy offenses it was just a mosh pit of people every play over center and refs weren't under the microscope of throwing a flag as much. Now days with the rule changes its a different game that relies on a refs judgment more often. With so many pass plays now days in the wide open field where fans can easily see a right or wrong call its a tough time to be a ref. It always has been hard but now days it's even worse. Defenses are the bad guys of modern football (much to my chagrin) and the opposing offense, coach, and fans are expecting refs to throw a flag on any little thing they do. The targeting rules instituted in 2010 were the demise of real football in my opinion. I know a lot of people won't agree but the game just isn't the same anymore. It was a gladiator sport played by men. Now it's a finesse game with prima Donna wide receivers asking for a pass interference flag every play. And a quarterback that can't be touched. There will never be another Ray Lewis or a Ronnie Lott. Guys like that can't exist in today's game because of how defenses are expected to pull up and not punish people.

I have re watched the game a couple of time. I think their were calls missed both ways. Big calls I feel they missed were the fumble early that Gore would have scooped and scored. Still moving and no whistle the refs looked confused. That was a blown call in my opinion. Looking at the PI. I feel one of the 3 was legit. On one a gore defender was pulling the jersey and it was stretched out. Clearly PI. The other two I thought were weak. One it was number 85 was just in phase with the WR and it was a late flag. The last one in the 4th quarter looks like DB was manned up. He has a 5 yard buffer to bump and hand fight. The Fairview WR just threw his hands up and really didn’t even run a route and ball was not catchable. On a touchdown run late. One of the Gore Safeties is coming up to make a tackle and gets destroyed with a block in the back from a WR. Just looking I can understand why Gore faithful are aggravated. I for one am Glad the Coach had the sack to say something. Officials have been bad all with no accountability all over the state. The problem is the OSSSA lines their pockets and could really give two craps about teams. They get paid and as long as they have crews. They really don’t care or they would have raised pay and had an accountability system. Before you say anything players, coaches and fans have accountability and rules and will be punished. Why not officials? If more people would quit being sheep and say something it might get fixed. Tell me what the accountability is for poor officiating? Nothing. I am by no means saying that these calls cost Gore the game. They made a ton of mistakes and Fairview took advantage and won. Just hate when officials change possible outcomes by being poor.
