Let’s take a look at how the top teams faired in the first tournament weekend:
1- Howe: 1-2 lost 2 games to top teams. Don’t see this hurting them at all. The close loss to el Reno shows this team can play with just about anybody.
2. Ampo- 0-0 I am assuming they didn’t play this weekend. They didn’t have any scores posted. Won big on Tuesday.
3. Latta: 3-0. They had a great win over Comanche. Latta definitely proving they are a top 3 team.
4. Silo: 2-1. They had a good win over an underrated OCA team and then got beat by dale. Silo is still a contender. They looked really good for most of the weekend. They’ll be around when it matters.
5. Dale: 3-0. Dale proved they are still dale. They won all 3 games by double digits. Beating ranked afton like a drum and then handling silo in the finals. I would have to think they’ll jump up to the top 4 this week.
6. Hartshorne: 2-1. Got beat in the finals of their tourny by Pocola. They are a really good team, but Pocola is just better at this point.
7. Hooker: 3-0. Hooker proved they are a top 5 team. Beating okarche and garber to win the garber tourny.
8. Pocola: 3-0. Beat hartshorne to win that tournament. They are still good enough to beat anyone. Guessing they’ll jump up a spot or 2.
9. Fairland: 2-1. Got beat in the finals by a solid 4a opponent. Think they are probably about where they need to be right now.
10. Merritt: 3-0. Won the tournament beating a solid canute team in a close one. Again, probably about where they need to be.
There are some 11-20 teams that also had some really good showings at their tournaments. Let’s hear about them. Also, several coaches are a little slow to get those losses on OSSAArankings. So hard to tell what all happened. You can assume they lost though because if they would have won, it would have been on there a lot quicker.
Very good insight. Hooker earned my respect along with Pocola. Nice to see our Dale girls start to string things together. Opening up with AmPo Latta, and Jones was brutal but a measuring stick we needed. The win over Silo was big. The Ellison girl is one of the best in the class. I’m anxious to see how they respond after a tournament win on Tuesday against a ranked 3A Luther team.
