Election Week
While many are heading to the ballot box to predict the upcoming playoff brackets, roughly 15% of precincts still have races coming down to the wire. So here’s what to watch in Week 10 - cast your votes!
GotW
Beggs @ Victory – Both the Demons and the Conquerors seek to be the top selection of the District 7 referendum, and each can score in chunks with big plays. Will the margin of success come down to whoever wins the turnover battle, the team playing better defense, or whoever has the ball last?
KaEo
Antlers @ Eufaula – Bearcats overlooked heavy underdog (perhaps only underrated!) Hartshorne and subsequently took their first loss of the season. Ironheads are now the prohibitive favorite – but could Eufaula, seeking re-election as District 6 champions, suffer the same fate (not taking the Cats seriously)?
Last Minute Returns for Playoff Positioning
Chandler @ Prague – This is the Blue vs Red race all of Lincoln County has been waiting for, with tons of undecided voters across Oklahoma. While there are ways for the winner to end up 3rd (& for the Lions, possibly 2nd or even 1st) in this District 2 runoff, what is most likely is that the loser of this game will wind up 4th. Lions propose a balanced campaign, while the Devils’ platform rests almost entirely on the legs of its quarterback.
Crossings @ Millwood – As Jones is almost assured to get its 15 margin points against Meeker, the Knights must win by at least 8 to assure certification of the District 2 crown in the event of a three way tie with Jones and Chandler. Meanwhile, the Falcons are in the unusual spot of being out of the playoff runoff, but could capture one of the most notable wins of 2021 to end the season.
Davis @ Frederick - One of two pre-playoff playoff games in District 4 to settle the 2, 3 & 4 seeds. Winner advances to playoffs, loser might not. Bombers were caught off-guard last year by the upstart Wolves in Murray County, can they even the outcome at home?
Lindsay @ Comanche – The other District 4 pre-playoff determiner between longtime rivals. Winner gets into the playoffs, loser might not. Leopards have been largely dominant in this series, but the Indians are going to be tough at home in southern Stephens County.
Bethel @ Purcell – Straw polls indicate this one is a toss-up. Wildcats hope to shake off last week’s shutout loss as they take on the Dragons in McClain County to decide the 3 and 4 seeds from District 3.
Atoka @ Idabel – Two campaigns going in different directions? Winner takes the 4th spot in District 6. Everyone might have written off the Wampus Cats from the ballot after losing four in a row, but they fought hard, found their confidence and are now looking for their fourth consecutive victory. Meanwhile, the Warriors, who looked promising coming into district play winning three in a row, have now lost three in a row, but will be in the safe confines of McCurtain County this Friday.
Spiro @ Pocola – Only the fifth meeting over the past couple of decades between these Le Flore County communities separated by less than 9 miles. Indians need a final swing vote, a victory over the Bulldogs, to punch their ticket to the playoffs as the four seed from District 5. Spiro put on a great show last week, but came up short against Vian, and now need to win big and some major help (cheering on Panama to upset Roland) to grab that 4th spot.
