It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
2021 looks intriguing - the usual suspects dot the rankings, alongside a bevy of teams with the pieces to make a special run. Here's what up in a curious week zero...
Right out of the Gate
Beggs at Lincoln - Great clash between perennial top 10 programs in neighboring classifications. Demons have been close for several years - if this is the team that can put it all together, getting past LC would be a welcome indication. Bulldogs might seem to have more inexperience overall, but bring back a great quarterback.
Tone-Setters?
Rejoice at Cashion - Eagles are used to winning, but had some growing pains last year as newcomers to 2A. That might not last long, as they bring a lot back in '21 and travel to try and make a statement against the defending 1A Champs, who are always solid (and favored to win 1A again this season).
Community at Crossings - It's a crosstown showdown, Oklahoma City edition. Royals came on strong towards the end of the year and are led by serious college prospects. Knights football program hopes to align with its basketball program's recent success.
Victory at Cascia - Another crosstown showdown - this one on Tulsa time. The Conquerors are one of the teams to keep an eye on this season, with 2/3 of their starters back from a solid 2020 squad. CH may still be another year away, but captured their district last year, and always make the playoffs.
Chisholm at Perkins - Longhorns averaged over 10 wins in the six years prior to 2020's disappointing results. Will a new coach help revive suburban Enid? Demons are also introducing a new coach.
Preseason Top 25 (because why not?)
1. Metro
2. Jones
3. Washington
4. Beggs
5. Chandler
6. OCS
7. Marlow
8. Vian
9. Millwood
10. Adair
11. Eufaula
12. Sperry
13. Prague
14. Victory
15. Community
16. Rejoice
17. Davis
18. Cascia
20. Antlers
21. Kiefer
22. Atoka
23. Frederick
24. Keys
25. Luther
Good luck to everyone!
