So I am interested to hear everyone thoughts on an enrollment question. I am interested in knowing how a school that competes at a 4A level in baseball (Marlow) is also a Class 2A football school. No complaints with them competing in 2A it just seems odd to me. In Basketball and Baseball its not uncommon for schools to jump up in other sports but be smaller in Football due to Fall Baseball schools, but I have never seen a school jump two classes and over other 3A Football schools at that. What is everyone else thoughts?

Idabel is 2A in football but 4A in baseball. Kingston is 3A in football and 3A in baseball but their current ADM is lower than Marlow and Idabel. My best guess is that all 3 of those schools ADMs were different when they did the classification for football and baseball.
It doesn't make sense? Sure it does. A football school hasn't won Class A or B in a long time. I think there was an earlier thread that discussed this. Unlike the "perceived" advantage of Private over Public, playing baseball year-round is a real advantage. So, if you gave more kids the opportunity to be a state champ in Baseball, is that a bad thing? it would sure make things more interesting. Other than jacking with Tradition, which I don't take lightly, what is the downside? You could even add a post championship game against the two to crown the true champion. More baseball, more fun, more revenue!
Little bit off topic but what is everyone’s thoughts on the OSSAA voting against separating fall baseball schools and football schools in the spring?
I would hope a kid who gets the chance to play twice as many baseball games as a kid who plays football would be good at it. When there are typically 1 or 2 football playing schools in a top 20 ranking, I think it speaks for itself. Fall baseball schools always have an advantage over football playing schools. Same is said for basketball. When kids have been in the gym since mid October their shots are going to be quite a bit better. Big fan of a split just to give small school kids another chance to compete for a title. Non football schools already get two chances a year for a baseball title.

Football is done far in advance....cause we reclass every 2 years while all other sports do it every year...we set 2022-23 seasons this summer off current 9-12 enrollment ..lots can change in a few years small class graduates big one moves in etc.

So are they doing redistricting for football at this year's summer clinic or are they doing it in the winter? I've heard both...

It’s a community and school choice to play football or fall baseball. To imply that schools should be almost punished for being good at baseball is ridiculous. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Schools that want to play football and bring in tons of money, great. But don’t take away from the fall baseball schools just because they get to play more games. And honestly, say Silo and Dale didn’t play fall baseball every year, would you not still pick them to win in the spring? Those programs are legit because of the tradition, coaches and kids that come there. It just wouldn’t change much IMO other than football schools winning a championship with an asterisk by it.

If we splitting it just because they get to play more games and that makes them better, then we need to split the players that play AAU ball from the ones that don’t. Cause it’s unfair all those kids that don’t have an AAU team......

I believe the last football school to win 2A baseball was Hobart in 1990. Good friend of mine was on that team. It does make sense. There is a reason why the OSSAA doesnt allow schools to put on pads but one season a year. Or limits when other sports can start practices, etc. Baseball is the only sport that allows you two seasons. Those that play fall and spring have a huge experience advantage over other teams. Only changes I am ever in favor for is when it relates to fairness.
Love is God's grace made actionable. I pray for a complete season for as many of our kids as possible.

So we can start having all year football? That would be a good idea for you?

Outside of the obvious safety concerns (which is not what you are referencing when it comes to fall baseball), no I would not care at all if there was two football seasons. Also, Other than your Class A and B schools, your football schools have lots of kids playing some form of baseball in the fall. Maybe we should put a limit on that?
