Alternate sites return, Triple-A season delayed for 2021
The MLB will use alternate sites similar to the ones used during the 2020 season, pushing back the start of the Triple-A season by at least a month, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported on Tuesday.
The Triple-A league was scheduled to begin on April 6, but games wil be pushed back to around Double-A, high-A and low-A start date the first week of May.
Passan reported that some executives told ESPN they believe the alternate sites could last even longer into the season.
MLB teams are hopeful the season delay will allow for more vaccination of players before they are sent to the minor leagues.
The number of players are each site have still yet to be determined, but Passan said that sources expect the sites to house about a dozen players.
The Oklahoma City Dodgers are a member of the Triple-A league.
