1. Jones 2. Metro 3. OCS 4. Eufuala 5. Washington 6. Beggs 7. Victory 8. Marlow 9. Adair 10. Millwood
Never too early right? Metro graduated 13 or I would have given them the #1 spot. Returning the Qb and 2 valuable receivers I couldn’t drop them any further than 2. I’m excited to see what my conquerors do this year. I think right outside the top 10 you have Rejoice and Cascia just knocking on the door. Again I see 2A being very tough.
1. Metro 2. Jones 3. Marlow 4. Washington 5. Vian 6. Millwood 7. Beggs 8. OCS 9. Cascia 10. Adair
Eufuala,Victory,Rejoice, Chandler, and Fredrick next 5
No worries for Metro losing 13 Sr.'s, they will get 8 or 10 new Jr & Sr's next year anyway LOL and still will be the team to beat in 2A. You can't have a top 10 and not mention Vian. Those dudes are top 10 every year.
I thought about Vian but knew they graduated their three best players so I wasn’t sure! Unfortunately we are in the same district as Beggs and Metro. You’re right I thought metro would he down this year with the class they graduated last year but evidently not!! We bring almost everybody back and played a really tough schedule last year so I think 2021 is going to be really special for us at Victory.

Metro will still be good in 2021. Kirk Francis is going to be even better with one more year under his belt. Metro has at least 5 receivers that they will plug in and they all can play. They also have a RB named Kendale Johnson that looks promising. Look forward to seeing another aerial attack like they had the last 2 years. The one thing that concerns me in their O Line. They did lose alot of the starters on the line. We'll see what happens though.
Was he #25 who also plays corner? If so yes he runs the ball really really well! I might be biased but I could see three teams from our district making the semis! I’m hearing Beggs is bringing back everybody but their Texas A&M commit!

No, but you're talking about Tagg Campbell, he's a stud on both sides of the ball. He will definitely be used as RB, but I see Metro using him in the slot as well. He's very versatile and can play different positions. Yeah, Beggs will always be good, but they're loosing C.J. Brown as well right? Those are some big shoes to fill.

Gotcha. He’s a great player! I hate we are in the same district as him. From my understanding Cj brown is just a junior? He’s a class of 2022 commit to OSU. Trust me.. I was hoping he was gone too! He had like a 95yd TD on us! 🤦🏼♂️

Metro is hard to pick against but it is also hard to pick a team to win a 3rd straight championship. That is an extremely difficult task especially when you take into account how deep 2A is. Hats off to Metro and I am sure they will still be in the semifinals at the least. I think this is the year a public school brings back the gold ball in 2A. I expect Jones and Washington to be very tough to beat in 2021. Beggs loses KD but returns a lot including their OSU commit RB. Marlow and Millwood will be solid and demand respect as always.
To the original poster, it will for sure be interesting to see if VC continues to make strides this year. They put themselves back into respectable consideration in 2020 but a hard place to win and a very tough district to come out of.
On an earlier post in 2A STATE FINALS PICK thread, I talked a little about the "great debate" of public vs private.
I am one of those villians that took his son out of public and moved him to private several years ago (he has since graduated). Even though I wanted him to be in a Christ centered environment, I did want him to participate in athletics. We had been in the Union school district for years, where I saw the best and worst of youth sports and the people who handle those programs.
Knowing that he was on the small side of playing O/D line, there was no way he was ever going to put on the 80lbs plus to play 6A football. That is where these private school programs "shine" and become an attractive option for kids that might not ever play a down in bigger public school settings. All you ever need to do is take a look at most of these private school rosters... and check out what those coaching staffs do with a bunch of under-size athletes.
Plain and simple, these private schools are winning because of coaching creativity on both sides of the ball. Take Metro CA as a perfect example. Their coaches take a group of kids that are historically undersized and wouldn't even be looked at by traditional 4A-6A public school coaches... and they work a system based upon getting the most with the talent you have. You should go back in watch the YouTube videos of some of these games and look at the size mismatch between Metro and it's playoff opponents... especially on the O and D lines. It's almost laughable when you see these D1 recruits and/or bigger lineman from Beggs, Marlow and Washington line up against Metro.
Instead of trying to match pound-for-pound and move the line of scrimage, privates like Metro, OCS, Lincoln, Victory just out-scheme and spread the field... and then let the D1 and bigger lineman chase them from side line to side line. On defense, the just use quickness and agility to swarm you. They don't spend half their practices running the OK drill, pushing sleds around and making pump-up videos of their kids dead-lifting weights and rolling tractor tires... they would rather spend the time working through a play book that will keep the other teams off-balance and guessing what is going to happen next.
Until most of these public school coaching staffs throw away their 30 year old playbooks and start trying to coach a more modern game, there will continue to be a growing divide between public and private!
As poster Tyrone (who appears to be a big critic of private schools) would say... "Come-onnn Mannnnnn"!!

I know tons of 2a and A schools that would love the “undersized” lineman of Metro, 220,260,215,198,210, all 5-10 to 6-4. Now a few years ago it looked like the whole team was 6 -1 , 185, back when they were in 4a.

I agree 100% with okfanhs. If you're at a school that plays traditional football day in - day out, week in - week out. Stop the run, run the ball, stop the run, run the ball. (Maybe throw it a couple times a game) Over and over again (i've seen it and played that way). It's completely different when the team that you're up against doesn't run the ball. You get caught off guard and you don't know what to do. I played D-End and Linebacker and let me tell you...when you know the team you're playing is going to throw the ball, and you're rushing the QB every play and NOT getting to him, its deflating. It's exhausting. I can't imagine being in the secondary and having Metro or whoever completing pass after pass, over and over again. It's a whole different game to play that way and 95% of the teams in 2A don't play that way. When you come up against it, its extremely difficult to coach against and prepare for. Most of the teams in 2A are geared to stop the run and run the ball, and once you run into a Metro Christian you've only got 1 week to prepare? It's going to be difficult. Marlow came close this year (really really close) and I feel for them. But needless to say, it's a totally different style of game.

So you are saying that public school coaches are not very good. That is laughable. I know many private school coaches that have been public school coaches. Private school coaches understand that they do indeed have advantages over public schools. I like the way private schools are set up to succeed and I wish would could do the same things in public schools that the private schools can do. As a coach, teacher and parent I would rather be at a private school because I know the advantages it has over public schools. Ask most parents if they could afford to send their kid to a private school and MOST would say they would LOVE to send their child to a private school. Here are some facts for you. Most private schools do not have special education so they do not have special education kids added to their ADM. Most private schools control who is enrolled in their school and those kids can come from anywhere. Most private schools require their athletes to be at every practice, film session, workout, summer workouts, camps, etc. Now public schools require this too but the difference is that if kids miss these requirements then they will no longer be part of the school. Not just no longer part of the program but no longer part of the school. Sounds great to me. Wish public schools could do that. Many private schools do not have to worry about the budget as much as public schools. Many private schools will have a bigger staff than public schools because they have more money and more resources. Majority of kids in Private schools will NEVER be on the ineligible list because they are trained to be successful by the backing of supportive parents that actually pay for their child to go to school. Private schools can kick a kid out of a private school if they are failing in their school. Parents are more invested in the childs education at a private school because they pay for their child to go to school there. So for me I actually think Private schools are great. Wish the whole system was like private schools. I would be a better coach and all of our kids would be more successful in life. Unfortunately, there are stark differences to public and private schools. And, YES Private schools DO have advantages over public schools and there should be a more even playing field for kids. And I am not just talking about athletics.

Here I am wondering what 2A teams are you watching. Everyone we play throws the ball all over the place. Been seeing Air it out offenses since around 2006. It is nothing new.

How did Davis win the 2A state Championship in 2013 vs. Millwood and Davis NEVER threw the ball. Every team is different, that is how.
