"THIS IS IT"
Week 16 Game
Next Saturday at 1PM - go to Edmond and see it for yourself – should be a doozy!
-Metro vs Washington – The Patriots channeled the 2005 Orange Bowl USC Trojans (many might say the 2019 Metro team vs Washington), taking advantage multiple OCS mistakes and pouring it on the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the 2020 Warriors took off early (and late) against Beggs to also win comfortably. So now…here they are, going head-to-head for the third year in a row – this time for the 2A Gold Ball.
It’s been a very impressive run for Metro since the unexpected fall from class 4A to 2A three seasons ago. But for a botched victory formation fumble in 2018, this would the Patriots third straight trip to the finals. Metro has been THE stumbling block for the Warriors the past two seasons – & everyone knows it’s hard to knock out the champ. Regardless, Washington has been tougher than a $2 steak on both sides of the ball all season. The Patriots, knowing next season will be their last in 2A, will want to establish a lasting legacy.
Both teams will seek to impose their will. Washington will want to pound the ball between the tackles, while Metro will throw laterally in lieu of runs to get space for their wideouts. Both teams use this style to create space in their vertical passing games.
Lots of questions to consider, here are a few: How might either team be adversely affected since neither is playing at home? Will it be a defensive struggle, or a track meet and come down to who has the ball last? Both teams are battle tested, could either be battle-weary? They say defense wins championships, so who enforces their will on more plays consistently – WHS’ defensive back 7, or MCA’s defensive front 7? Who has the overall speed advantage?
