1. Lomega is #1 until someone knocks them off. Consensus #1 pick.
2. Varnum lost an all-stater but think the move in from Strother is eligible this year. (thought they had a move in from Strother that sat last year, could be wrong. correct me if i am). well coached. PG can go. Conference play is very tough.
3. Whitesboro will be a tough team, 3 coaches in 4 years for seniors, new offense/defense, need to see how this plays out. Still has very good guard play. Coaching is to be determined. Lost a guard and big post moved out. Have the talent for sure but not sure where they end up due to coaching. I would say it would be a disappointment if they didn't reach state.
4. Hammon Very young team that was beat out by Mccurtain in Area consolation bracket. Will play a tough schedule again and will be playoff ready. Still will be very young this year. Always well coached.
5. Mccurtain Returns 4 starters from last years State team. Got move in from Kinta who has deep playoff experience. Did lose an all-stater but can replace the points and boards. Very very deep. Mcclellan girl led class B in assists last year. Reed girl is a beast in the post.
6. Paden Lost guard with alot of experience. Gunn girl should be full time starter this year and she makes them a different team when she was on the court. Split with Varnum and Mccurtain last year. Well coached. Gunn coupled with the other post will be hard to guard down low. , guard play might be an issue. Plays a tough schedule. Conference play is very tough. Will be a very tough opponent for everyone.
7. Leedy State team last year. Well coached, will be a tough matchup.
8. Pittsburg Young team still, with not alot of playoff experience. Likes defensive pressure. I still think they are year off from making state but we will see.
9. Cyril Drop from class A. (21-6) Lost to Canute in regionals and Cheyenne/Reydon in area. Should be a tough team, played several ranked B teams last year and did beat Duke when they were ranked #1.
10.Kiowa Lost 4 starters, dropped from A. Still has Stone girl who can play inside and out. I think this team is a bubble team at the time being and could go either way with being in the top ten.
Couple of side notes.
Leflore: Boys Coach has taken over coaching duties due to health reasons for the regular girls coach. Their would be 5th starter transferred out during fastpitch. Have 3 players that can play and other two are suspect. Not going to have alot of bench. Don't think they will be in the mix with Whitesboro, Pitt, McCurtain, Red Oak, Kiowa, Webbers
Red Oak: will be well coached but ball handling was an issue last year. Will have a few freshman but will see how they adapt to high school ball. Post from Whitesboro has quit and isn't playing ball as of right now. that could change. Should be better than last year, but they did get beat in districts by Cameron.
Webbers Falls: Coach Ward is one of the best coaches around. They will be in the mix all season and will more than likely make a deep playoff run. Shanks girl can play and the freshman PG will be a big help. I figure will be in/out of top ten all season.
Welch. Big and athletic. Not good shooters but if they progressed from last year could be decent. Play a weak schedule. Don't think they have enough to get in top 10. Maybe top 15-18.
Still in the mix. Lookeba Sickles, Duke, Glencoe, New Lima All very will could be top 10 or even top 8.
I don't think I have seen Class B girls this stacked ever. There is a legit 15-18 teams that could make a legit state run. You could easily have 8 state teams from the east and 8 from the west.
There will be no easy first round regional games this year and Area playoffs might be better than some of the state games last year.
I hope that the girls get to play this year. Good luck to all your teams and may they stay healthy.
Looks like its going to be a fun year.
