Tulsa Booker T. Washington boys basketball coach Conley Phipps is retiring from coaching, the Tulsa World reported Tuesday.
Phipps is the father of The Oklahoman All State second-team member Trey Phipps, who signed with Oklahoma in November. Conley said he is retiring from coaching so he can attend his son’s games.
During his three-year tenure with Tulsa Washington, Phipps guided the Hornets to a 2019 state title, a 2018 Class 5A state championship game appearance and a 2020 state tournament appearance before it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Conley played two seasons at OU and then two more at Northeastern State in Tahlequah before moving into coaching. He coached in different roles for 30 years, including nine as a head coach.
