Definitely all the best to the young man from Rejoice. Football is a big deal but his life and safety are more important and this is a reminder to all of us.
I'd say your analysis is on the mark houseofstark. I confess to total ignorance about Tonkawa's team. My last experience playing them was 2011 or so and so much can change.
I'll speak to Fairview's 3 losses. I was at the Perry and Hooker games but not at Alva. We played like crap against Hooker. Penalties, poor clock management and just downright sluggishness cost us that game. Even then there were only two critical plays that both led to Hooker TDs that turned the tide. If you'll look back at my posts I was never impressed with Hooker and it was mainly because of this game.
Against Perry we lost in 2OT. Our placekicking game is weak and just one more made PAT changes this outcome. Perry won their division in 2A. Against Alva I understand we moved the ball and battled well but again missed 2 PATs. Lost that one 27-26 but had the ball and were driving at the end, just ran out of clock.
I'll admit to skepticism after the Perry game. We only had two players produce anything that game and still nearly won. I was worried we'd be a two-trick pony and knew that wasn't going to work. It seems like we've added weapons and skills ever since that game and with the exception of the Hooker collapse have improved every game.
Neither the Cashion game nor the Commerce game surprised me other than the lopsided score vs Commerce. Fairview has been able to keep the vaunted running games in check (Commerce, Hooker and Cashion) and has enough weapons to beat you on the offensive side.
At this point with the competition distilled down this far nothing would surprise me except a lopsided win by Tonkawa. Both teams will have to play well to win but I'm pretty sure Tonkawa hasn't seen anything like Fairview this year. Not sure what a rainy night will do other than make the fans miserable. Possibly reduce Tonkawa to a run-only team and hamper-but-not-eliminate Fairview's passing game.
Got a little windy there. Safe travels and good health to all!
