The Nike HYPERELITE Basketball does not meet the specifications as outlined in the NFHS Basketball Rules Book. The cover of the ball does not meet the description of deeply-pebbled. Its appearance is more of a pitted cover as in a golf ball. This ball has been declared as illegal and should not be used in any of your high school contests

This made me chuckle. Basically the NFHS must have some sort of deal with Wilson, and can’t allow Nike to infringe upon said deal. The reasoning for exclusion of the Nike ball is laughable. The dimples go in and not out. Therefore it is different from the Wilson version and is unacceptable. So if Nike had a version where the dimples were out then it would be perfectly legal?? I’m sure the NFHS would find something else wrong. This whole thing smells of an attempt to protect a deal.
