I’m not sure what is going on, but they are ranked that high based on last year’s success and what they had returning. And my guess is all of the ranking services don’t dive too deep into small school rankings and just see that they are undefeated and thus haven’t dropped them.
They have almost the same team as last year, but for some reason can’t get things going this year. They played much better offensively against Wewoka. They didn’t have a great game defensively, but Wewoka is much improved this year and played very well on offense. Hoping they can figure it out the last half of the season.
Totally agree. I’ve said that since spring football that I thought they would be good this year if not better than last, but that they’d have to prove it to me after the quarterfinal game last year to CHA. So far they haven’t proved anything. They’ve shown flashes but that’s it. I said they early on I thought they’d at least make the quarters and if that’s as far as they went, it would be a disappointment.
How they’ve played this year so far, it will be tough to win the district. If they do beat Wynnewood and end up winning it, they will struggle to get past Pawnee or Pawhuska, which is who they’d play in the second round. (As of now I’m predicting Pawhuska beats Pawnee and Pawnee finishes second).
This isn’t the most talented team Stroud has had. We had more talented teams in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015. But unfortunately, we were in 2A and got knocked out in the quarterfinals 3 times and second round once. So this is this best chance Stroud has had at a State Championship in awhile, with the combination of talent, being in Class A, and there not being just one completely dominant team. And with how they’ve played, they are wasting that opportunity.
